About Pacific Mural Exchange
Learning through the work.
Pacific Mural Exchange is an emerging public-art and workforce-development initiative connecting hands-on education, professional mentorship, cultural exchange, and real-world creative work.
Our foundation
A bridge between artistic education and professional practice.
Pacific Mural Exchange (PME) is an emerging public-art, education, and workforce-development initiative founded by Portland muralist Aden Catalani. Aden created PME to share the knowledge he has gained through decades of commercial painting and large-scale mural production while building more accessible pathways into the mural arts. The organization brings experienced artists, emerging artists, students, educators, and cultural partners together through hands-on learning and the creation of meaningful public art.
PME’s mission is to prepare artists for the complete process of developing and producing professional murals. Its educational model connects traditional craft with contemporary technology, teaching participants mural design, surface preparation, painting and spray techniques, artwork scaling, digital visualization, safety, equipment use, project coordination, teamwork, and professional jobsite practices. Cultural exchange and community engagement are also central to the mission, allowing artists to learn from different places, perspectives, and creative traditions.
Through its strategic partnership with Trade Waters Painting Company, PME can provide qualified participating artists with pathways from education and mentorship into paid professional work. Artists who demonstrate readiness can join Trade Waters projects as paid team members, gaining real-world experience alongside established painters and muralists while continuing to develop their creative and technical skills.

Strategic partnership
From education to paid professional work.
PME’s strategic partnership with Trade Waters Painting Company creates a bridge between education, mentorship, and paid professional experience. Through Aden Catalani’s leadership within both organizations, participants who develop the skills and readiness for professional production can be placed on eligible Trade Waters mural projects as paid team members. Working alongside experienced painters and muralists, they gain practical experience in production, safety, teamwork, site coordination, and client-facing public art—turning guided learning into a supported pathway toward meaningful creative careers.
